What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (HEIF) is the photo format iPhones use by default since iOS 11. It is smaller than JPG, but many websites and Windows apps do not accept it.

Is location data kept?

No. EXIF metadata such as GPS location is removed.

Will the JPG be larger than the HEIC?

Usually yes. JPG compresses less efficiently than HEIC, so the same photo at similar quality takes more space.
