Pick a PDF and get a copy of 1 MB or less. Lossless mode keeps text selectable; image mode saves pages as pictures and reaches much smaller sizes. Your file never leaves your device.
Upload limits
This tool uses a fixed target and does not depend on a service limit.
How it works
- Choose a PDF document.
- Lossless mode re-saves the file without touching the content; guaranteed mode turns pages into images.
- The tool finds the highest resolution and quality that fit the limit.
- Download the smaller PDF.
Didn’t fit? What to do
- Scanned documents shrink well in image mode: they are already pictures, so little is lost.
- Remove pages the portal does not need, such as blank pages, before compressing.
- If the form accepts several files, split a long PDF instead of squeezing it into one.
- Zoom in on small print after compressing to check it is still readable.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1 MB 1,000 KB or 1,024 KB?
Portals differ. The tool targets 1,000,000 bytes: exactly 1 MB in decimal units and about 5% under 1 MiB (1,048,576 bytes), so the file passes whichever way the portal counts.
Will the text stay selectable?
In lossless mode, yes. In image mode, pages become pictures, so text can no longer be selected or searched.
Why is my PDF still over 1 MB in lossless mode?
Lossless mode cannot shrink much when pages are large photos or scans. Image mode re-saves each page as a compressed picture and reaches far smaller sizes.
